According to the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "should figure out whether the appraisal or evaluation is applicable for the transaction, the liability of the transaction, and whether the process by which the collateral valuation is attained ensures independence and quality." They "must also announce whether the appraisal or evaluation report is consistent with the engagement letter, which sets forth the capacity of the appraisal assignment." Last, The Federal Reserve notes that "some institutions supplement routine reviews with post-funding evaluations of appraisal quality for a few of their higher-liability or larger-value contracts as a means to aid in identifying valuation problems."
