According to the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "ought to determine whether the appraisal or evaluation is fitting for the transaction, the uncertainty of the transaction, and whether the manner by which the collateral valuation is accomplished guarantees independence and quality." They "must also indicate whether the appraisal or evaluation report is consistent with the letter of engagement, which gives an account of the range of the appraisal assignment." The Federal Reserve also states that "some financial institutions reinforce typical reviews with post-funding assessments of appraisal quality for some of their high-risk or high-value dealings as a method to aid in revealing valuation dilemmas."
